Morehead Planetarium and Science Center is looking for enthusiastic, energetic students to present astronomy and other science content programs in its GlaxoSmithKline Fulldome Theater. Students who are hired will start out by introducing and presenting pre-produced science-content shows. Opportunities also exist to advance into presenting more advanced programs, as well as serving as the on-site technical/operational manager for the theater and the building during certain shifts.

Students should be available to work weekend hours in particular. Some daytime availability on Tuesdays through Fridays would be a plus in order to help present school programs.

Qualifications/prerequisites:

• Experience and/or demonstrated public-speaking ability.
• Knowledge of basic astronomy concepts. Generally, prior successful completion of, or current enrollment in, ASTR 101 is considered a requirement.
• Ability to work effectively with high-tech equipment.
• Ability to effectively relate science concepts to audiences and visitors possessing a wide range of intellectual and cognitive levels.

Given that Morehead operates between and during holidays, as well as during the UNC academic calendar, some additional preference may be given to students who reside within relative proximity to Chapel Hill and/or can be available to work periods outside the academic calendar. (Non-work-study funding would be used for work in off-semester dates)

Hours - 6.0 to 15.0 hours per week
Hourly pay rate - $7.25/hour to $8.30/hour
