Physics 2305: February Grade Report
By now you've gotten your grade report by email. Please keep a few
things in mind. First, check the individual grades for accuracy
and report any inconsistencies to me as soon as you can. Second,
the letter grades are only meant to be approximate. No "+" or "-"
grades were assigned (it's much too early for that). To see if
you're close to a break between grades, use the grade breakdown
table below, which shows the grade and rank cut-offs. Finally,
remember that you should never consider any grade in this course
guaranteed. These results only reflect about a quarter of the
total semester, and they're only meant to give you some
feedback on how well your study tactics are paying off so far.
The grades are based on:
12% | Exam 1 |
3% | Problem sets |
1.5% | Quizzes |
16.5% | Total weight |
Note that lab grades are not included in your score.
Some facts:
- A total of 257 students are currently enrolled.
- For the 254 students who took Exam 1:
- Mean course average = 68.92 (corresponds to a straight C)
- Median course average = 71.48
- Average problem set score = 8.00
- Average quiz score = 6.05
The breakdown:
Grade | Grade cut-off | Rank cut-off |
Number of students |
A | 90 | 24 | 24 |
B | 80 | 79 | 55 |
C | 60 | 178 | 99 |
D | 45 | 227 | 49 |
F | 10 | 254 | 27 |
F (MIA) | 0 | 257 | 3 |
(MIA means Missing In Action. These people aren't sitting for exams.
I never understand why they don't just drop the course.)
