General Procedure
I know all this seems draconian, but Brian Hyde and I have to keep
track of over 200 quizzes and 200 homeworks each week! So your
cooperation will really help us out.
- Please submit all homework for grading in the small sorter
box outside Robeson 322 labelled "Sloan Physics 2205 - Submit
new homework here." Homework submitted in the wrong sorter box
may never be seen again!
- Problem sets are due Wednesdays at noon, and they will be collected
from the sorter box shortly afterward. Any homework submitted
after collection (or in the wrong box) is late.
- Students should include their name and their special ID number on
each page of their homework (and on all quizzes for that
matter). Students who fail to do so will lose one point per
assignment.
- The special ID number consists of 6 digits:
The first two are from the last two of your section index number,
i.e. 83, 85, or 88.
The last four are the last four digits of your student ID number.
In rare cases of identical numbers, new numbers will be assigned.
e.g. Section 8083, student ID number 226-12-4542 --> 83-4542
- Homework should be on 8 1/2 x 11" loose-leaf paper.
Don't use paper torn out of a spiral notebook (we can't stack it).
And be sure to staple all sheets together. Penalty, 1 point (each).
- Two problems will be graded from each set. Each will be worth 5 points,
for a total of 10. The general scale is:
5 points | | right answer, right method |
4 points | | wrong answer, right method |
3 points | | right or wrong answer,
wrong method |
2 points | | some effort by a
reasonable method |
1 point | | any effort (or right
answer but no method) |
No partial credit is given for work after numerical values have been
substituted for variables.
- Graded homework and quizzes will be placed in the appropriate sorter
box, generally on Sunday evenings or Monday mornings.
- All unclaimed graded work still in the sorter box by the end of the
weekend will be removed and discarded.
- Solutions to all homework will be posted on this webpage.
- Late policy: 10% per day. No credit for homework submitted after
a set has been graded or solutions have been posted.
