Spectra of infrared standard stars

Contents

All of the spectra below are in spectral FITS format and IPAC table format. The FITS files are saved as a simple FITS image, with wavelength (in µm) in column 0, flux density (in Jy) in column 1, uncertainty in flux density (Jy) in column 2, and an order or spectral segment identifier in column 3. The IPAC table files follow the same format.

IRS standards

The spectra in the following two tables were chosen as candidate standards for the IRS on Spitzer. Unless noted otherwise, the spectra are coadded from the available data, as described by Sloan et al. (2015a). The two exceptions are HR 6348 and HD 173511, which served as primary standards for the IRS and for which template spectra are provided. These were constructed as described by Sloan and Ludovici (2012).

M giants

M giants are far from the ideal standards, but for the sake of completeness, we've included the following M giants published by Sloan et al. (2015b). Users of these spectra, please note that the reference differs from the one for the K giants and A dwarfs.

Hanscom standards

The following spectra can be used as assumed truth spectra for many of the traditional infrared standards used since the 1980s. They are generally bright and well behaved, but they include some M giants, which are not as reliable as the earlier-type stars.

Users of these spectra should cite Engelke et al. (2006, AJ, 132, 1445). They are presented here with permission of the first author.
