Can You Canoe? (RWP2) - Since it is a beautiful weekend day, you and four of your friends decide to spend it outdoors. Two of your friends want to simply relax, while the other two want some exercise. You, however, need some quiet time to study. The group decides to spend the afternoon canoeing on the Eno river. The couple who wants to relax will put a canoe in the river and drift downstream with the current. By slowly walking along the bank at a rate that appears to match the leaves floating along the surface, you estimate the flow of the river to be about 2 miles per hour. After dropping off the first pair, you drive your van 10 miles downstream where the second pair put their canoe in the water. They will paddle upstream until the two canoes meet. Since you have been canoeing with these people before, you know that they can maintain an average speed of 3 miles per hour in still water. When the two canoes meet, they will come to shore and you should be there to meet them with your van. You decide to go to that spot ahead of time so you can study while you wait for your friends. Where will you wait, and how much time will you have to study?
